But as world-renowned Dr. John Gottman, Executive Director, Relationship Research Institute has determined, there are four negative patterns that predict divorce and other relationship breakdowns: Blame, Defensiveness, Contempt, and Stonewalling. He named them the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
These behaviors exist in every relationship, and that’s perfectly normal. But when they start to manifest too often, they can make the relationship toxic. Thankfully, the common element among every relationship is the ability to repair it. When people learn the impact their actions have, they can choose to change those actions and improve the relationship.
